Rustic “Favorite Things” Toddler Boy Room

Happy Monday! I don’t know about you, but we are in a little bit of a food comma from all the deliciousness we ate last night. I took full advantage of being almost 9 months pregnant and ate all the food. It was a great family weekend, and now to stop our boys from tackling each other all day long “like the boys on TV”.

One of the very first rooms we tackled in our new house was for our two year old son. We were really worried about how the boys were going to transition to the new house so we wanted there rooms to be on the very top of the list of projects, so they had a place to call their own from the start. We involved them in the process (as much as you can for a two year old!), and it was so fun to see our little man so excited about how it turned out! The room still needs blinds, a side table, and few more pieces of decor, but our two year old is happy and that is all that matters!

When we started brainstorming for his room, I knew almost immediately I wanted his room to have a rustic outdoor feel to it. This little man is all boy. He is obsessed with all things trucks, trains, bikes, and being outside. We thought why pick a theme, but rather do a collection of all of his favorite things! I am not one to mix a different colors but blue, green, and brown just seemed natural for this room. The reclaimed wall and neutral paint colors give the room a woodsy feel. It was so fun putting this room together and watching little man’s face light up with each addition of his favorite things!

Our littlest of men isn’t quite ready for a toddler bed, so for now we are sticking with his crib until he graduates to a big boy bed. I can’t wait to add a bed that goes with the decor a bit better, but little man sleeps amazing, so we won’t be messing with that right now (especially with a newborn arriving soon!). After we decided the direction we were going with the room, we knew a reclaimed wood wall would be just what the room needed to bring in the outdoors. This little guy is such a Colorado kid, and I think this wall reflects that. We found this amazing wood at our local lumbar store and I could not be more in love with the turn out! I had been eyeing the Stark Trees Bear sign at one of my favorite local boutiques for months and finally snatched it up during a sale. We love that it doesn’t distract from the rustic wood, but rather looks like it is part of it. And of course, our little one loves all things bear too!

Right as we were moving into our new house, my grandmother passed away. She was the most amazing woman, and someone I saw a lot of myself in. A few weeks later my dad brought over this dresser that used to belong to her. I was so thrilled to have a little piece of her and knew I wanted it in our “favorite things” room. It was originally painted white, so I updated it with gray chalk paint and a rustic wood looking top. I kept the hardware because I felt like it really reflected her style. It feels like it was just meant to be in here.

We had so much fun adding these shelves and decor. The lantern, no parking sign, and oil can can were finds from a local vintage market. They are so rustic and each piece seems to be telling a story. I added the green truck, bike book ends, and buffalo print to make sure there was plenty of little guy’s favorite things in the room. Both our boys are obsessed with buffaloes because of living in Colorado, so when I found this print I was thrilled! And of course a big fight broke out as to whose room this was going to end up in…you can never win with two toddlers! And this train lamp! My husband actually eyed it first and it was the last one in the store. They gave it to us for 60% off because it was a floor model, and the whole way home little man was holding his little lamp so excited!

This little corner is where we spend the most of our time in his room. We originally weren’t going to put a chair in here, but he loves to read and snuggle before naps and at night so it was definitely needed. We added some of my favorite pillows, blanket, and pouf to give this little corner a cozy feel. And these lockers. They were love at first sight, and I couldn’t get them into our car fast enough. We found them prior to being in our new house, so didn’t know exactly where they would go but I just love them here! They also are awesome for extra storage. My husband found this truck sign, and I have to say at first I was a little skeptical (actually a lot skeptical). But I do have to admit it is so cute here and trucks are definitely our guys favorite. How adorable is this “Stay Wild” sign? Everyone that sees it comments on how fitting it is, HA!

And that is our little man’s room full of his favorite things! What I love most about this room is that it can really grow with him. As his likes and interests change it will be so easy to change out the decor. If you’d like to see a DIY tutorial on the dresser or reclaimed wall, just let me know! Thanks so much for stopping by!
